My KH is currently 10.47. I currently have a couple fish and an abundance of coral. Is this going to impact or damage anything? I know I can lower it with ro water changes however in doing that wont I also lower my PH? which is 8.1

    Any advice would be appreciated!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You're parameters are fine and do not need an intervention in my opinion.

    How do your corals look?

    Did you dose something?

+1 anywhere between 7 and 11 is within acceptable reef parameters

have you checked Calcium level? as its possibly that is higher than normal at the expense of Calcium Ions.

PH of 8.1 is also fine, you may be able to elevate that with more surface agitation

is your DKH high because you have been using a PH buffer?

I was originally using a PH buffer and was also adding additional calcium supplements.
Calcium is also a little high - 565, I have since stopped.

My corals currently seem to be fine and thriving.

    good news Prototype17a

PH buffers, or at least some of them, will also deliver alkalinity
same is true in reverse, in that some Alkalinity supplements will also increase PH

IMO, no major action is required, those levels will naturally fall, if you discontinue using the supplements

I would in any case, get a 2nd opinion on the test kit results , as many an action has been carried out needlessly as a result of faulty test kits.

are you doing a regular water change? if so then the levels will also fall gradually when water is replaced with new saltwater with lower calcium and alkalinity levels

You will need to continue to monitor both Calcium and Alkalinity
because to get that Calcium below 500 - or better still just under 450ppm
you could witness a drop in your DKH from 10.5 - to less than 7 (approx 20ppm calcium for every 1 dkh)

Thus you may have to monitor and continue supplementing alkalinity, whilst allowing your calcium to continue to drop

what product are / or have you been using to supplement alkalinity?
because you could select one that also boosts PH ( some do, some do not affect PH and some even lower PH)

The test kits are actually brand new, using the hanna digital kits. (was using out of date api tests which were inaccurate, hence me just noticing my kh/calcium levels now)
The buffer I've been using is KENT MARINE SUPER BUFFER DKH ADDITIVE
Thanks for your help / advice btw

    Hi Prototype17a

That Kent product does increase PH in addition to delivering Alkalinity
so IMO is a good product to be using, whilst you try and get both levels within acceptable reef parameters

continue to monitor both, whilst allowing Calcium to drop slowly
you could allow the DHK to drop to 9 or even 8 , and then at that stage
calculate based on utilisation how much you need to dose of the kent product each day

+1 To everything Steve has said. It is also important to monitor your Magnesium levels in order to maintain a proper balance.;)
