I use bulk reef supply alk recipe 1 . I mixed it with ro water as directed and when i dose the alk it turns to a snow like form when it hits the water in my refugium. Why does it do that? I used this before and i do not remember it doing this.I am pretty sure it just got cloudy before. Thanks

try pouring it into a high flow area and see if that helps. I mix mine up and pour it right in front of a powerhead

it's suppose to do that. it's a chemical thing, you will have to read up on it to really understand why it does it. i would tell you myself, but it is hard to explain, so i will leave that to the experts. pour it in slowly and a little at a time because it will really spike your ph. wait a few minutes for the ph to come back down then dose a little more. you dont want to raise your ph any more than .20, so a little at a time will do. if you have a sump dose it in the overflow, if not then dose in front of powerhead.

Your exactly right, if there isn't enough flow it will (ball up) or turn into snow. I have mine mix in the baffles down in my sump. Works really well and no cloudy water while dosing.

I will add it to my overflow box next time. I put it in my refugium and there isnt that much flow there. Thanks everyone.

ALK needs to be added slowly to a high flow area. Otherwise it will precipitate (clumping/hardening) an lessens the effectiveness of the alk.
