This is why you use an acclimation box.

Is it ok to keep an adult wrasse in a tiny box? And what about the wrasses that sleep in the sand?

Yeah... this might be iffy. Close cousins those two, and your photo shows what I'd expect. :p You never know though, they might knock it off in a few days. If they're still at it after a week, forget it.

Yes, they'll be fine for a few days. For sand sleepers, you need to add a small container with sand, or put enough sand in the box for them to burrow.

I do indeed. :) Found it at MACNA of all places; it's hard to get ahold of these days.

Hi Im new to the site and a big fan of wrasses and i have a question about one of mine that recently died. i had the red lined wrasse for about 2 years and one day it had its mouth wide open and wouldn't close it unless it was eating. i called some of the local stores and nobody seemed to know what was going on. this lasted for a little over 2 weeks before it died. Any ideas about what happened?

Sounds like a broken jaw. It may have gotten infected or the fish may not have been eating as well as it appeared after that.

Is that something preventable or treatable or just something out of my control?
