Just an update on the Hooded Fairy Wrasse (C. bathyphilus):

So far he has been eating well. I must say, he is by far the most skittish fish I have had to date. Not sure if this is just during the acclimation process, or how they always are. I only found a couple of videos online, and he is behaving the same as I saw in one video with two males in one tank. Here is a quick video:

Other than that, he is coming out in the open more and more each day. The plan is still to keep him in the QT for 2 weeks, so another week and a half.

Thanks! It's amazing how little info is out there on them. I know they have only been identified for about 10 years now, but I would think more hobbyist would have them by now. Either way, definitely looking forward to releasing him into the DT :)

I'll say. I might go hooded over a flame after seeing yours.

    This should help:

Flame wasn't an option for me due to my smaller tank; Hooded should be less aggressive compared to the Flame from what I understand, but Flame's aren't terribly aggressive themselves. Flames, although expensive, are available everywhere (both of my LFS have at least one pair), where as Hooded's are only scarcely available.

    Edit: Added video from 5/5/13

He looks good; behavior is normal. Wrasses are always spooky when they aren't any other fish out and about. Survival instinct. :)

    It's all about availability...

    :thumbs_up
Having kept both C. jordani and C. nahackyi (a C. bathyphilus cousin), you'd be heading down the better road. ;)

Eh, they're not THAT much smaller; maybe a 1/2". And neither species is known for aggression.
