Hey evolved quick question about keeping multiple wrasse. I currently had a melanarus wrasse that I believe is a male. I have always loved the leopard wrasse and understand how difficult some of them are to keep. I would love to house the two together and from your post believe it maybe possible in an appropriate sized aquarium.

So question.... If the melanarus is a male and I were to find a Macropharyngodon meleagris female, would the leapord transition to a male as well or would it stay a female? Not sure if being different a different genus would influence the female/male transition.

Thank you Evolved for your reply :) For now everything is well, all three are eating and no aggression shown. Lets see how it turns out. They are really beautiful!

It should be possible, yes. And most likely, the leopard would remain female.

Thanks Elliott. Look for more on the local stage come June. ;)

Good to hear and you're very welcome; best of luck.

Thanks evolved, not sure if I want to try it in my current setup as it is only a 65gal tank and might be a bit cramped but would def try it on my next upgrade.

Hunter doesn't have a mystery wrasse because they kill other wrasse alot of the time. Think about a bigger, meaner, 6 line.

You sir must be mistaken LA says they are mostly peaceful. :p

I am looking for color, most wrasses need bigger than 40. The Mysteries are such awesome looking fish. Oh well another dream brutally stricken down.:-/

Lol if alone it would probably be fine, but 40 is a little tight. Live Aquaria says the I am 'mostly peaceful' as well.

Yes, but I wouldn't do it unless you witness them together prior to purchase. They are NOT sexually dichromatic; they look the same.

No, because it's a Pseudocheilinus wrasse ;) (and I like more than one wrasse)

    Ummm, sure....

Borderline for a 40g, but it could be done. They do get bigger than you might think however. And they'll eat shrimp once mature, but I doubt that's an issue for you.
Take a look at the Paracheilinus (flashers), or even some of the smaller Cirrhilabrus (fairys) like lubbocki.

It just depends how much juice you've had today, right? :p
