    polyp is a catch all type of word that is used for everything. every coral (that I can think of) has polyps. so to just call a coral "polyps" is like calling all Oak Tree's "leaves". I made the comparison up on the spot, might not be the best ;)

    LOL....that's pretty good. I would change it to be all deciduous trees "leaves".

    Yes, but they are grouped with them because they look similar.

    No they are an octocoral if I remember right. Like Peredhill said all corals have polyps.

    Polyps (zoas/palys) are sometimes called so because they are only 1 polyp not 2000 in a big acro colony
