RO/DI was the best investment I made and I only got it about 2 weeks ago. Makes the process a lot easier and pays for itself in time vs. buying water for ~89 cents a gal. (price for distilled here). Not to mention I don't have to worry about having 50 empty jugs laying everywhere waiting to be recycled.

Sounds about right to me too. In CT, the temps and humidity can vary a lot. I've done 15 days on 5 gallons, and other times only 6 days on 5 gallons for a 90gal tank. Lucky it's in the moist basement else I'd probably be topping off the res even more often. I'm working on building a 30gal res behind my wall to "solve" the problem / make me more lazy.

I'm in at around 2 gallons a day on my 150 after I removed the glass canopy.

Question that's been in the back of my mind is does all this water replenishment help with nutrient export. In theory Nitrates are converted to Nitrogen gas which can be dissipated with evaporation.

Anyone have any info on that?

No. With evaporation, all you lose is water. Nitrogen gas and carbon dioxide are exported, and oxygen imported, through surface circulation. However, you greatly improved those gas exchanges by removing the cover, as the bad gases become trapped and prevent your water from 'breathing' properly.

But if you have a Sump and/or a Fuge you tank will breath just fine thorough them.
