Sorry to hear....A fresh water or Lugol's dip deffinantly wouldn't hurt. There are also zoa eating spiders that are much harder to see than the nudis. I lost a few zoa colonies from spiders that hitched on a colony from the LFS. Dip it with RO/DI at the same temp and ph of the tank for a min or two. Give them a couple days and then do another dip if needed.

    Pic would also help!

I'm not a pro so maybe wait for another response or two from one of the experienced guys before you do it!!

went ahead and did a freshwater dip for 3 mins. I just got a bucket of ro and stuck a airstone and an extra power head for mixing salt water in their. Added baking soda until the ph was the same as my tank. basically just blasted the colony with the power head for 3mins. After 3 mins I put it back it my tank and all the polyps are closed now but the ones that were already look better.

I wouldn't have done anything until you found out what is going on. IMO, it's needless and stressful to the coral. It could be that a snails was bothering them or that they decided to close for no reason, corals sometimes do that. That being said, hope they come around.

I'd advise against the FW dip... instead I'd ask

how long have you had this coral?

how long has it been closed?

are you noticing polyps dying off?

do you see a crab or snail that crawled over that section?

all in all, unless my colony is shrinking over several days, I don't pay attention to them closing....

how long have you had this coral? Couple of months

how long has it been closed? Some since I got it increasing amount over time

are you noticing polyps dying off? no

do you see a crab or snail that crawled over that section? Don't have crabs, very few snails so no

I'd advise changing the flow up or maybe their level under the light (maybe less, maybe more).

I would also advise (not now that you've dipped it, but for future) using a turkey baster and blowing it off. sometimes they'll stay closed if there's gunk on them.

or maybe I should frag again cause most of the frags I did from this colony were originally closed polyps.

so it might be that its not getting enough light. guess I could put it on my frag rack for a while and see.
