    1. Very well and it was put in about 6 weeks ago.

    2. I am adding DT but I didn't start adding until about a week ago. I use RO/DI water from Target and I put in crushed coral with live sand. No idea about the man made stuff. Why are they dying?

    3. Good, because it has been going on forever lol

    4. Just starting the phosguard and purigen about two days ago.

What would you reccomend that I do.

Are you dosing anything that would cause your calcium to precipitate out? What are your calcium and dKH readings?

Otherwise you could have some uneaten food somewhere-under rocks or dirty filter media.

The phytoplankton always die really quickly.
Phytoplankton is just such an encompassing word though. It can mean practically anything that is microscopic and lives in saltwater. your just seeing the detrus of the dead ones build up on your powerheads. Since they eat mainly silicates and man-made sand is made up mostly of silicates, the phytoplankton have a lot of food source and they are populating very fast. The hazyness could be be from all the phytoplankton in the water... but thats just my best guess, cant guarantee that its right :/

If its this a micron filter will clear it up and then it will stop on its own once the silica is consumed.

But as a side question, does your tank get a lot of direct sunlight?

Yes it used to, but I covered the window behind it with a blanket and sheet so we should be good with that now.

    1. I wouldn't use water from Target.
    2. I used to use purple up. It sucks.
    3. Do you have a protein skimmer?
    4. With a power filter you have to change the filter very frequently or you will get almost constant algae blooms.
This is just from my personal experience, other opinions may vary. Good luck with it.

Purpleup can cause this. Read the bottle closely. Really need to know your dKH (alkalinity) and Ph levels.

Purple up can cause what? I use it and other calcium supplements and yes, they can cause cloudiness, but it clears up in less than an hour usually.

Do yourself a favor and buy a Poly Filter pad and see if it clears things up. I am betting it will. I would also back off the weekly water changes. Add some live bacteria a couple times a week for one week to bolster the biological base.
