So today i went to an lfs, and i had asked about which lighting they reccomend for reef tanks, and that i will like to be able to grow anything that i would like and they said to go with the T5 series double liner strip and that's only $60sum but i'm liking the sounds of the lighting that daniel072 suggested which was the 36" 6x39 Tek Light T5 highe-output fixture w/bulbs and that runs i saw about $400sum, but my lfs' website has it for about $300sum and i would get half off on everything that would buy since they gave me a vip member card.

    So my question which one?

is it a tek fixture or a knock off. I don't trust your lfs at all. (see my post in the ro/di thread)

they run it because it's the cheapest. I never sold lights like the ones we used in the store where I work because we used the cheapest to keep the operating cost down. Ur lfs doesn't keep most things long term so they could get by with just about anything.

you'd be sorry. I know exactly what light that is. That thing is no better than a t8 normal output. It's just not.

and even with the little knowledge i have on lighting when the woman was telling me i should get that light something just didn't seem right. I knew about the whole saying of you get what you pay for, and i thought something was kind of strange. Like why was it that all of the lights that i have been looking at have been like $300plus and that one a tiny $63. On the website they do have the one that i think you suggested, the Sunlight Supply Tek Light High Output T5 Lighting Fixture 36" - 6x39W and if i get half price i think i'll go with that one.

Yeah you do get what you pay for in this hobby. That is for sure. A lot of people make that mistake. ok the one I looked up for you yesterday on the site comes with bulbs. The one that they are offering, I'll bet you a million bucks doesn't and ur till gonna end up spend 120 bucks or so on bulbs.

ohhhh so maybe that's why its cheaper, that would make total sense. So i am now 99% positive that i will buy the light system that you suggested. I just want to make sure that the 6 bulbs won't heat up my tank to much since i don't have a chiller, although im considering on getting one down the line. And i have a 200watt heater, will this heater suit the lighting?

The heater and lighting will have nothing to do with eachother. I think that heater would be plenty big enough for your tank. yep. Something I didn't think about tho is the six bulb may not fit over the 46 bow. You may have to go with the 4 bulb. I just wasn't thinking about that.
