I need to get a skimmer for my 10gal mantis tank. He is a very messy eater and I am having a horrendous time trying to fight a cyano bacteria bloom. I don't want do use any meds as I am not sure how it will affect my beloved mantis. They are hardy as heck but some of the strangest things kill them.

    Currently I have a Aqueon 10 filter.

That being said whats a good HOB skimmer for a 10gal with lots of skimming to do. I also don't want to pay too much because it will be cutting into my coral money for the reef tank (which needs a new skimmer too, but thats another day).

I was looking at the skilter filter just for price but I am not sure about it. It looks kind of chincy to me.

I was also looking at the prizm skimmer. It looks better to me than the skilter one. It is also more expensive though.

Anyone have any other skimmers to recommend?

    Thanks for your help everyone!

Prizms are junk. Not sure about the skilter. There are quite a few threads regarding skimmer recommendations in the Skimmer forum that you might want to check out. This question has been asked quite a bit so you might not get too many answers too quickly as a result. :)

I've been very pleased with our new Octopus skimmer. It's in the sump, but they do make HOB models.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry for beating a dead horse. I keep forgetting about the search feature.

I think I am going to get the internal mini skimmer 115 by aquatic life. I think I can move my aqueon filter and have room for it.
