I currently have a 250 watt visatherm stealth pro. I was told by a friend that there has been some real issues with them as in they explode. So I do not want that to happen to my system. I was hoping for some input on some good titanium heaters.

I've had 3 Marineland heaters for about 1 year and never had a problem with them. They're all black and also promoted as "Stealth". There are newer versions of Marineland heaters, titanium and all the jazz. You may want to check them out.

I will check them out. Its just that sometimes you start cruzin the web and you can get kinda overwhelmed buy the amount of products available just to warm the water for fish. Its just nice to get good ideas from people that have the same likes I do. thanks.

I have a 250w Stealth Pro from Marineland. The "issue" few people are having is they say the heating mechanism inside did not turn off when reaching the set temp, thus the water heated up-to about 90(if it was set at say 80). Then they freaked out & pulled the heater w/o turning it off/unplugging it. The drastic change in temperature outside the heater shell(hot to cold) will cause it to shatter in some cases(the same way a hot light bulb can shatter if you spray water at it). This shattering is what they mean when people say their heater "exploded".

I have personally never had a problem with my heater & have only heard of a few cases of this ever happening...

I have had a 100 watt and 200 watt Stealth Pro in fresh water tanks with no problems for a year. You can do a quick Google search and see some posts about them exploding but most of them appear to be posted by the same person.

I am glad to know i am not the only one to wonder if a few people made a lot of posts about isolated problems. I am controlling the heater with an apex lite, I was not worried that it was going to go pop. I love the Apex and the peace of mind it gives me. Also happy to know the good experience with marineland heaters

I had one break on me for a different reason. The heater was in a mantis tank and hearing horror stories of them smacking the heater I had it as high in the tank as possible and sideways. Well like an idiot I started doing a water change without unplugging the heater and exposed the heater to air. It promptly cracked, but did not really shatter. Still 100% user error but a different reason none the less.

I was looking at this heater also. Do you run it in your sump? Does it keep your display at the temperature set on this heater?
