Save your self a headache and purchase this from reef cleaners ReefCleaners.org | Clean Up Crews and Macro Algae - Rock

and go to a local fish store and get a piece of live rock and you'll thank me later. theres no telling what else is in that water, i live in melbourne and i know i wouldnt want to put anything in my tank from the rivers, lagoons, bays, creeks. It could kill everything in your tank. Not to mention that rock looks 1000 times better!

I don't mean to damper your spirit, but this isn't the cheapest hobby to get into so unfortunately that means opening your wallet more times then you'd like to. It can be done. but if i was you i would save up and get the right things you need to have a tank that works with you, not against you.
What size tank we talkin here?

It is against Florida law to remove rock - of any kind - from its waters. The people in the keys get away with it because they have a lease and a license with the state to aquaculture live rock. If you get caught collecting rock, they take the boat, the trailer, you, the wife, the dog, the car, everything even remotely involved in collecting it from you.

If you just want filtration, you can do a DIY rock and save some money.
