So I did my back tracking. I installed the new lights on 17th of March of this yr so that puts them at 6 months old this month.

So it's definitely not the bulbs. I'm going to go with sand bed. Try as much manual removal as possible, then do a water change, reduce your light period, replace filter media on time, cut back on feedings (if you can)...try those things.

Just spent some time removing it with my hands. It's harder than it sounds lol.
I may just siphon off the top layer of the sand bed. If my LR wasn't resting on the sand bed, I would siphon out all and just leave it as a bare bottom.
I usually feed everyday but I'll shift that to every other day and decrease MHs from 8hrs to 6hrs.
I'm running NP reducing biopellets to help as well.

When my tank was newer I had a massive GHA outbreak. It does not come off the rocks very easily!! It is a major pain.

Also, I increased my flow and that helped a bit. Maybe add another PH?

I guess my tank could use another PH.

    how big is your tank?
maybe you could get an algae eater. Like a tang.
while this wont solve your issue directly it can certainly help with the cleanup.

ps.. NVM.. i saw your build thread.. and you already have tangs. * nice tank btw*

i would then just do what was suggested above. Cutting down on lights, food, and some manual labor :p

Replacing the sediment and carbon filters will not reduce the TDS. The sediment filter physically blocks suspended solids (sand, silt, rust, etc...) and the carbon block also does this as well as adsorbs chlorine, copper, and VOCs (if the rating is small enough), but they don't remove total dissolved solids to any real extent (that's the job of the RO membrane). I've never heard of a TDS of .14. Are you sure the scale isn't supposed to multiplied by 10 or 100? Most meters either read in whole numbers or to the tenth, not to the hundredth. I guess it is possible, but I've never seen a TDS meter read to the hundredths. The COM-100 reads to the tenth, and that's the best I've seen. Unless the scale used is microsiemens and you converted it to TDS, but you stated TDS. If it were measured in microsiemens, most would state it as such.

If you are using a RO/DI unit (and not just a plain RO unit) and are getting a reading above zero, it may be time to replace the DI resin, as it is getting near the end of it's useful life.

Yep tangs in there not doing much to help the situation.

Oh I understand. The ting is, I cant remember if it was 14 or .14 etc. It's a friend's meter, so I will ask him today what unit of measurement is used.
The guy I usually buy my fish and corals from told me that I needed to change the DI resin but I didn't listen lol. So I'll see about getting some new DI as soon as I can.
    Thanks for the info.

Already have one. He's still picking on the glass and rocks but not eating the GHA.
