ummm.....I answered that as well as everybody else up until you did....I said he does not have enough lighting for it. Nobody got off the topic and "just put their 2 cents in" He asked a question and he was getting the answers.

He asked.... do we think his tank was ready... if so should he get a carpet or RBTA...and what are pros and cons of both

Anemone questions ALWAYS stir up a lot of emotions. People have very strong opinions on whether or not somebody should keep one. I dont see where this thread got off topic and I sure dont see where anybody was telling him "NO YOU MUST NOT GET AN ANEMONE"

Well thanks everyone for giving me their opinions. I am definitely not going to be getting a carpet nem after hearing the horror stories of them, I am not ready to give up any of my fish for a nem.

With that in mind, I will be leaning towards a rose, but have some unresolved issues as of yet. I just got home from work and for some reason my GBTA is extremely shriveled and tiny. I cannot tell if it is expunging its guts, but it does not look very well.

I called the LFS, and they told me (which they failed to mention when I purchased the nem) that it was only in their tanks for about 45 minutes. The worker I asked said they had had it for weeks. This is the same worker that killed my first derasa clam by ripping its foot off. This guy should not be allowed to work at a LFS.

I think that it may be on its way out (the GBTA), but my long tentacle looks larger than ever. I will give the nem another day or two to see if it is just still acclimating.

The first pic is of the nem yesterday, the second two are of the nem now. All of my params have not changed:

    Calcium 420
    Alk 9
    SG 1.025
    Temp 79
    PH 8.1
    Nitrates 0
    Nitrites 0

like I said not being rude. relax. I just feel like I can relate to when somone throws me ino disappoinment for no reason.

Wouldnt it be better to say to him "you should weigh the pros and cons of carpet anenome before you purchase" ? rather than just saying "I would stay away from carpets. They can get very big and can pack a horrible sting!" ?

This can stop people still learning in this hobby from getting somthing they still couldve had or wanted. For somtimes no good reason!

The other day I posted question about how many fish where recommended for my tank, and I proceeded to list that I wanted a mandorin goby.

The only thing people answered was"you shouldnt get a mandarin without a steady copepod population"

That wasnt the anwer to my question!! I already knew this info.

Im sorry to come off offensive, its just frustrating when knowlegable guys tell us want they want us to here instead of what where asking!!
    sorry bout the offense.

    Any help with the GBTA?

I also think that because the carpets can get so large, I dont want to run the risk of having it kill any of my fish or any of my corals that are in the tank.

banthonyb71, shackmel, come one, if youre gonna do this do it in a PM not out here. as for the GBTA, it can make it as long as its foot is not dissentigrating, if the foot is dissintigrating then its done for and get it out PRONTO!

how long have you had the anemone? It looks as if it is still attached at the foot so I think it is just adjusting. Sometimes they will shrivel up like that when they are pooping. Maybe it just ate?

I would talk with the owner of the LFS and tell them about the issues you are having with the employee. The owner might be pushing the employees to sell at all costs, or he might not have any idea of what is going on.

I would keep a close eye on it.

I think it was just pooping, even though I have yet to feed it in my system. I think in regards to the second part of your post, he is just an inept worker that knows little of the trade. I know the owner and speak with him very often, and he is not a high pressure seller.

Thats for the advice, the nem is doing much better today than yesterday. I think it was still just acclimating.
