I have a top fathom 100a on my 100g tank. The way I have been setting my skimmer to get the skimmate color I want is to leave the air valve wide open to get the most air in there and adjusting the water level up and down using the sliding outlet pipe on the skimmer.

Could I be putting to much air into the skimmer and in turn not be getting the best performance out of it?

Sounds right to me. Are you getting good skimmate?

Im not sure there is a such thing as too much air! I think you are correct in your adjustment. I have never adjusted the air on my skimmer, only moved the slide valve up or down to produce wetter or foamer skimmate.

The skimmer was working fine until I changed 15g of water a few days ago and now is not producing any skim mate and I have not touched the skimmer at all.

I didn't think you could have to much air in the skimmer its good to know I have it set right.

Seems like i have to readjust every time i do anything with my water, even though i get it back to the exact same level as before i started. Just a "skimmer thing" i suppose. Sounds like your doing just fine.
