Hello, I introduced a small CUC to my 30 gallon tank, 6 snail, 6 hermits , ans 1 coral banded shrimp and 4 days later may ammonia went from 0 to 0.50 ppm is that normal???

I feed the coral banded brine shrimp but very little and every 2 days.

If its not normal, what should I do?

    THANKS ....

They aren't producing enough waste to spike ammonia that much IMO.

Are they all accounted for and alive. Possibly a dead one and that is where the ammonia is coming from.

Other than that I say it's wasted food that the shrimp isn't getting.

If no dead CUC members, then I am guessing it has to do with you feeding the shrimp.... They require much less food than most of us think.

And if so, then this should correct itself as your bio filter adjusts itself to the new bioload. You still need to be careful of overfeeding and introducing more nutrients to the water though.

I doubt this would cause an ammonia spike. This is a common problem that is pretty easy to solve. What types of filtration are you using? What are your other levels? What else is in the tank (live rock, sand, livestock, etc)? The more info you provide the better we can help! :)

How old is the tank? It's possible it hadn't cycled too.
