I was doing my routine water test and everyting looks fine right where its sposed to be. However when I test for ammonia the results in the test tube are cloudy, the color is right and everthing looks good but its cloudy. The lfs guy says that there is some kind of chemical in my water, I have trouble believing this cause I just completley started over with all ro/di water and no air fresheners or scented candles near tank. I'm using an api test kit for now and its allways been cloudy so I thought thats how its sposed to be. Does anyone know anything about this I sure could use some advice! Thanks

Might be the kit. Or you may be using the wrong amounts. What are dosing or adding to your tank?

Why are you adding RO right? The Cycle could be causing the cloudiness but I am not too sure on that.

lfs guy recommended RO right should I not use it? HE says not to mix salt with straight RO/DI water

He is wrong, don't waste your money on it. The salt mix puts everything needed into the water.

Agreed - been mixing salt and RO/DI for 20+ years.

I'm going to try and repeat what my brother told me (he is an Analytic Chemist).
He said that all of the test kits are based upon PH and then he said something about the test kit making something come out of solution and floculate.
Sorry that's about all I could understand and remember before I got the chance to post. He did say that it is probably something in the water, but that he wouldn't be too concerned about it, that it is probably something organic (proteins or something).

When I get back home I'll have him type a post explaining what he said.
