Amphipods????

    Are these amphipods growing in my tank? The just stick to the side of the glass and return piping in my overflows. I never see them moving, but they multiply like crazy.


    I know.....the picture sucks.

    You don't they eventually die off as the system ages.

    They are usually found in dark/shaded areas, sump, behind pumps heaters......

    Harmless filter feeder.

    Don't worry about them...they will more than likely disappear if not its just sponges....I have had huge colonies before

    I had thousands in my sump and overflows and cleaned them all out......so I thought. Back they came......

    Only because the conditions are right.

    They are filter feeders, so in tanks with higher levels of suspended particles or DOC they thrive.
