Just thought I would share a very amusing story with the community

I have a 5ft WIP reef tank and in addition set up a 4ft tank to take the place of the FOWLR tank that was being converted to corals

main reason was I wanted a location for my calerpa ( or in actual fact my 7 year old sons calerpa as he chose the original rock it came with and wanted it in his tank)

    amusing part

he also decided that he wanted the bananna wrasse in his tank, and as it has been set up for 3 months now, with some rock, some water, snails and hermits and calerpa (growing well) from my tank

Wrasse - this guy dives into the sand each night - so last night I figured
watch him for an hour after lights out, when he dives in, mark the spot, leave 30 mins and then go in with really big net and take sand and fish together
my 7 year old son is holding the canopy up and I do the netting

result - got it 1st attempt High 5s and fist touches between a happy father and son!

(hang on a minute, this idiot said this would be funny?) OK we're getting there, be patient

so sand and wrasse are transfered to a large, handled plastic pan
for some reason, I decide that now would be a good time to put the sand back into my tank

so balance pan on cente brace and using my hand scoop sand back in

    Yep you got it

wrasse jumps clear of the pan and is back in 5ft tank

Now if you have never experienced the look of total disbelief in the competance of a male role model - I truly hope you never do!

Ill try again this evening and I doubt I will get any assistance

Oh my... Happens to me on a regular basis at the LFS where I work. Except these are bare bottom and much smaller tanks. So not too much worries lol. However, my battle at work tomorrow is to remove a sick yellow tang from a 10ft display with alot of rocks and crevices... I have my work cut out for me:-/

    Good stuff!!

Ever try to catch a fish with a net, and as you're lowering the net to the water's surface, the fish jumps out of the tank and INTO the net before the net even gets wet?

I've been sort of close to that. However, for me, I just broke the surface of the water with the net and the fish swam right into it.

LOL too funny. You made me laugh so I'll share one of my funnies.

One time I brought in a 16" Queen Angel (show size) for a store pet that I wanted to put in an 850 system. Large angels do not ship well so I told my wholesaler what the SG of my tank was typically and he moved her up to that SG over a week or two. Finally I got the call...."Curt, are you ready". I said "Oh heck yeah". Eric expedited the fish NFO and I was at the airport picking him up about 2 hours after I hung up the phone.

Well, he came in a 100gallons of water. I measured temp, pH, and SG and everything was on mark. Not only that, there was Stressguard and Prime in the water and I always treated Eric well and he always treated me well. (Sometimes it's not what you know, it's who you know so I wasn't afraid to have some of this water in my display). Okay, that might not sound like a big deal but you try carrying a bag holding 100 gallons of water up a step ladder. I was slowly going step by step up the ladder, I had a partner and 2 part-timers underneath helping to lift the bag. Suddenly it happened. I felt water on my legs so I quickly just jerked and swung the bag as hard and as fast as I could. Lo and behold....the queen was just fine and swimming around. I was kind of blocked off from the world for about 10 seconds while I watched him swim around his new home. Then I looked down. My partner and my 2 part-timers were soaked to the bone because the bag exploded on them.

Now here's the question for you. Did I feel bad for them? (Schackmel, you're not allowed to respond).

No - you felt relieved that the fish was OK and I imagine all of you where stunned and shocked, but laughing once that wore off

well I would have been laughing if I was holding the ladder anyway - Once I knew the fish was OK

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it.

If you aren't willing to be soaked, covered in fish poo, and all sorts of other gross things, then you shouldn't ever work at or run a LFS. Yes, we laughed our heads off. Then everyone grabbed a mop.

I wouldn't have felt too bad, it's part of the job and I'm sure they would also see the funny side... eventually...
