I've got a simple question...how long should a tank be up and running before you can get get a dwarf angelfish? My LFS said like 6 months, but I've heard a lot of different answers.

The angel would not be going into my 37 gallon, so no worries!

    Thanks! :)

My LFS guy told me the live rock needs to have a lot of life and algae on it to keep the angel healthy. But I know other people (like you) that have added them right away and everything is fine.

I'm hoping with my new tank I won't have to wait too long!

If you're worried about there not being enough food growing on the lr, then you can use a veggie clip and some nori to supplement. It's a good idea to provide this anyway.

is this fish going into a reef or fo tank? most drawf angels are add with caution. some may nip at corals. thats the only reason i havent added a flame angel to my tank. i dont have expensive corals but i prefer to look at them over a fish that may pose a problem.

Well...it will be a reef, but I really want an angel. It is my dream fish - one of the major reasons I'm planning on upgrading to a bigger tank. So I will just take the risk! haha I definitely won't be doing any crazy expensive corals (at least not for quite awhile). I need more expertise first.

If you keep the fish well fed, doesn't it lessen the chance it will nip corals? Or is that just wishful thinking?!

well angel fish do need a well stablished tank.. so i would suggest to be one of the last or at least 1-3 months after tank has cycled.

Angelfish are just naturally grazers so even if you keep them well fed, they will still search around the tank for something to nibble on.

Haha darn! Oh well, I still want one. And I won't come on here and complain about how my angel is eating my corals. ;D

My Potters angel grazes all day but hasn't bothered any of my corals or inverts at all.I've had him almost a year.
