hey m2434 i knew you would have a say about the uv and bacteria. ;D

hey what did you think about that write up and how they dont use much in those office tanks with sps? since thats one of the hardest corals to keep that needs cleaner water i found it very interesting they way they are running. it has me thinking about over doing the filtration, and buy buy buying all the chemicals when they say they are just doing water changes to keep all in line. all the extras how necessary are they?

Would be nice if they had more pictures, but very cool tanks. I'd especially like to learn more about the NPS section in the 180. NPS tanks really are the holly grail of reef keeping IMO.

As to not using much, I'm definitely part of the "Less technology, more biology" reef crowd (in case you can't tell LOL). To me, I'd even say it actually seems like they're using a lot; certainly more than me ;D

Ha, not from me ;) Just need to avoid waste. You can feed as much as you want as long as it is being exported or consumed before it is broken down (wasted). I'm feeding a ton with no algae, or detectable nutrients, but I'm feeding small meals 4-5 times per day. That gives plenty of time in between for the it to be eaten or exported and avoids waste. Also, stability is important, the amount of critters around to consume the food depends on how much you regularly feed. So, if your feeding is inconsistent, then this can be problematic. Feeding too much can lead to waste and feeding too little, die-off of the critters, which decay and produce waste. However, IMO, no waste, no problem
(disclaimer: within reason anyways ;) )
