I will be getting another Vortech mp10w!!

My reef will be hitting the 1 year mark next week and I added my first Vortech mp10 a couple weeks ago swapping it out for the Hydor Koralia 750. I am not 100% satisfied as I thin there is something wrong with my first pump as it seems to be kind of loud. I am not talking just the whirling sound of the motor and propeller either but when it ramps up and down it sounds almost like a small motorcycle in my living room. I am pretty sure this noise is NOT normal and currently contacted echotech and am hoping to work towards a solution. I can not, however, argue with the flow it produced inside the tank which is so much more random than with the hydors. Really looking forward to getting my second pump by the end of this week so I can take full advantage of the modes and wireless capability!

They will both be in the upper corners on the back wall of my 46 bowfront, thinking reefcrest in anti-sync mode might be the best bet but might try Tidal Swell mode as well.

Sounds like your sides are not matched or the shaft is bent.

When you say sides are not matched do you mean it was not properly aligned? I have checked that many times and it does not sound like the normal vibration that happens if you slide the wetside to far to the side.

As for the shaft being bent I guess I would not be able to see that with the naked eye, it is brand new and has not been dropped or anything but who knows what happens during shipping or at the warehouses.

I contacted echotech thursday and still have not heard back, kind of surprised its taking so long.

    I was thinking alignment.

I emailed them a couple weeks ago about one of my wet sides that broke and have heard nothing from them.

With the cost of those pumps, I would think they would put customer service as a top priority! Congrats on your new pump pgh! Would love to see an updated pic of your tank!

Try pulling the wet side out of the tank, shake it from side to side gently. If you here a sound where something appears to be sliding around... the rotor could be out of alignment with the wet frame.

If that's the case just unscrew the cage/nozzle and then twist fit the wet frame and the rotor back into alignment. No tools needed and it only takes a few seconds. Twit fit the cage/nozzle part back onto the frame and back in the tank it goes - realign and you should be good to go.

    Hope this works for you!

I am also going to get another MP10 for my 55g very soon :). The other powerheads just take up SOOOOOOOOO much more room.

I keep checking alignment, I find it easiest to actually loosen the wet side while it is on high speed so the whole side spins crazy fast until it sticks in the spot it finds best, seems to eliminate any audible vibration noises.

I hear great things about their customer service so hopefully hey do pull through if needed!! Should for a $300 pump!!

I plan on doing a good update later this month for the 1 year birthday of the tank. Haven't added much livestock lately and I have been messing around with flow and dosing a lot lately where my corals haven't all been exactly pleased with the changes but things are looking better. Having a hard time getting my Alk and CA where I want it though for some reason but that's a whole nother thread

I actually did take apart the wet side a week or so ago to see if that would solve the problem, did for the rest of the day but when I woke uo the next morning it was revving like a bike again. I tried it again this morning due to it being really loud and it seems to reduce the noise and then tonight it seems very quiet so hopefully that was the fix, we will see how it is tomorrow morning
