Anemone (Rose Bubble tip) has been in the tank for 6 months, clowns (tank bred black and white ocellaris) have been in the tank for about a year now. Up until this past weekend neither one has ever really investigated the anemone. Now the male clown took the leap and is now inseparable from it. The female goes up close to the anemone but doesnt seem to want to take the plunge, although I have seen her brush up against it but nothing like the male.....is it common for one to go and then the other? The anemone is aprox 8 inches across so I dont think its a not enough room issue.

This is something I'm hoping happens for me. I would think that it will be both in a little while :) Congrats!

She may be building the protective slime coat required to prevent the natural reaction of the nem. I had one that dove into a new bta and got stung; she never went near another nem again. OTOH, I watched as a domino damsel acclimated himself to a condy nem. Took about 2 weeks of brushing against the base of the tentacles, and then he was in it.

FWIW, in the absence of the threat of predation, some clownfish never find a need or desire to reside in a nem.

Seems she is still more at home in "her" wellsophyllia... She doesn't go to far away for any great period of time before returning and exhibiting the same behavior as the male in his new found anemone.... I have to cover up the wellsophyllia with a cut off 2 liter pop bottle top in order to feed it without interference from the clown.... I am a little more then hopeful that she may decide the anemone is much better then the coral...

So tonight I've noticed that once the daylights went off the female started to get closer to the anemone and inspect it, but the male is staying on the perimeter of the anemone and appears to be darting at her as if she is getting to close.

+1 first thought that came to my head as well, consider yourself lucky! 6 months is not all that long. there are some pairs that take a lot longer.

So is it likely that the female will join suit and let the anemone host it?

I would say yes, especially if they are a pair.
