    Hey all,

I just got a Green Bubble tipped Anemone and I am concerned. I got it yesterday and it opened and attached really fast moved around a bit then found its spot I think.

I woke up this morning and it was fine opened up and everything. I went to work and now it looks like it is shrinking. Brown Slime seems to be coming out from the center. It is still attached to the rock.

Am I in trouble or will it be ok?

its either pooping or expelling zooanthellae(bad). you need to check your parameters.
i would expect the anemone to shrink and expand normally.
i mean expelling zooanthellae is bad not the zooanthellae its self

they expell the water in their body, so shrinking is not always a bad thing. What is your lighting like?

I have 260 watts PC on a 55 gallon flatback hex. He seems to be fine I was just getting excited I think. He seems to be blowing himself back up now.

Ok good, it sounds like he was just "dropping the kids off at the beach" [pooping] But I dont think that will be enough light for him. Especially if he set up toward the bottom of the tank. PC are usually not strong enough to keep anemones.

he is about 18 inches away from the light I fed him after he opened back up and he wasted no time in swallowing the food. We will see, he was doing fine under about the same lighting at the fish store.

But it was only there for a short time and didn't have time to actually start to decline. Not only that, but because the light is too low for it, it will have been expanding more to compensate.

Simply put, PCs will never be enough to sustain an anemone. Sorry. :-/

i agree, you don't have a very good chance with pc's. i don't think you have any chance with it it 18 inches from the light. try to get it in the top 10. but of coarse you can't really control where it moves

Now, if the anemone chose that spot, and pardon the question because I'm a newb, wouldn't that mean that it likes where it is and that if it didn't it would move elsewhere?
