I have a GBTA and it has been slowly shrinking. It's color is good but it's mouth does gape periodically and times when it's closed tight. Any advice?

How does one tell if an anemone is dying?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Are you feeding it?

Gaping is ok if it's for short periods during daily fluid exchange.

Uncooked sea food from the grocery store: Fish, scallops, ....

    Tiny pieces.

It doesn't seem like it wants to eat....I've tried but lately it won't take it and I don't force it.

Is it closed up at all? What color is the stalk?

Hmmm, well you're going to have to post an image.

Yeah never force it, well you really can't, odd.

You have fairly new T5 bulbs?

Sounds like it may be stressed. What are your parameters (SG, pH, Nitrate, Phosphate, etc)?

Also, how much flow do you have directly on the nem?

well, there's a good amount of flow on it. It does close its mouth tight. The stalk is a healthy orangey color and the color is actually very good. It just seems to be shrinking in diameter and not blowing up looking healthy?

I haven't checked my parameters but I just did a fairly good water change. My nitrates still are at about 20 so could it be on a slow demise because of that? I know my temp. stays at 79, salinity is 1.024 - I know I should know all my levels but I don't :(

I will try and get a picture - hubby is grumpy again :(

Nitrates at 20 shouldn't be a problem.Have you changed it's position in the tank or changed the amount of flow?

My GBTA does that as well, it literally looks deflated. Its normal and by next morning its all bubbled up. I never have fed my nems directly with solid foods. I use coral vibrance and it takes it from the water coloum when I feed the corals twice a week. Sometimes I'll spot feed it with my baster but the food is very small particles and plankton. My nitrates read 0-5 on my API test so I don't think your GBTA is reacting to your nitrates. Keep an eye on it and give some feed back with pics ;-)

Anemone's are much more sensitive to Nitrate and Phosphate then corals or fish.IME a reading of 20 can be harmfull..What is your Phosphate level?:-/
