I got my condy when my tank was just barely cycled. I made a bad mistake. However, the anenome gods were looking down on me and have been for the last three months; it is very happy and has a maroon clown hosting it. My son just fed it a piece of silverside here about an hour ago, in fact. It does need more light. Mine currently is about 14 inches below the water surface. I have PCs (350W). This is not a lot. I have been a bit nervous about it's lighting requirements since it moved down there, but I suppose it won't commit suicide. Nevertheless, I am keeping a really close eye on it.

Look for lack of coloration in the base as an indicator that it needs to be removed now. Also, it will lose it's ability to attach. It's tenticles will look really bad from time to time (every morning, after feeding or when it's pooping), so that is not so much an indication of impending doom. But I have heard the weakening of base colors is. This is if you decide to keep it and live on the edge.

You need some better lighting, as others have stated. Look at a Nova Extreme Pro 6x54Watt to get an idea.....or a Tek 6x54W. Both are good units. Don't skimp on lighting. Research it. There are a lot of ways to go. Metal Halides as well. With lighting you will spend some money if you want to do it right. Honestly, if you cannot get good lighting here soon, I would take that anenome back before it dies. IMO, that is inevitable and it will be a mess.

    Peace.......John.

Thanks for the messages. I did rearange my tank a bit, and now my light is 4-5 inches from the anemone. I set it up like this for the moment, until this weekend. I dont have time to go looking for lights. Now that it has the light so close, it stays in the same place, and it seems fine.

Originaly I was confused because When it moved, it went to the only shaded place in the tank. Whatever the reason, now its not moving. Once I have everything fixed, I'll try to post a picture.
Thanks again , the info is great.

P.S. i had my tank set up for 2-3 months, only one porcupine puffer (about 3 inches)

Could anybody say what would be a good light req. if I have the anemone 5 inches from the light? Is that a good idea? (if i make it a good place, i figure it would not move away)

Sorry but you have said how many watts the lights are but you have not stated what type of lighting it is.
Unless you can tell us what the lighting is, its hard to give you any answer about them.
Different types of lights react differently you see.
when it comes to flourescents, T5's emit so much more light then T8 etcc

I want to go this weekend and buy two to four 24inch lights.

What I want to do is: set the lights on the sides of the tank, so that the top is uncovered. I only plan on having one anemone, and I would place it next to the side tank wall, so it would be right next to the light. I have a gift card from a Petco, and I figured I'd go and see what lights they have. (I believe they have the standard, ocean life, coral life, zoomed lights.)

    Thank you for replying.

How about if I put a total of 4 of these
    Nova Extreme HO Light Fixture - 2 x 20 Watt T5 - Saltwater - 18"
(two and a side and two on the other)

but then for the same price I can get this
    Nova Extreme HO Aquarium Lighting Fixture - 4 x 54W & 4 Lunar - 48 in.
    Nova Extreme HO Aquarium Lighting Fixture - 4 x 54W & 4 Lunar - 48 in.

So it is stronger, but it covers the top.
    144W vs. 216W +moon leds.

    Any ideas are apreciated.

    Thanks for all the input.

The 4x48 would be much better. The T5's should support your anemone much better than anything PetCo would sell you.
Keep your lights on the top of your tank. Mounting lights on the side would be a VERY BAD idea, for many different reasons

I don't understand the reasoning for setting the lights on the side. You want the lights to shine directly into the tank for the best effect.

If you bought that light from foster and smith it's on sale right ow for 197.99 and shipping is only about a buck more

Anenomes need decent light but with supplemental feeding once in a while anemones will do fine even under less than perfect light.

    thank you for the replys
The reason i wanted lights on the side was beacause i like the view from the top.

an open top allows me to look at the tank from above, and i enjoy that view because it is a different experience rather than looking from the side.\

I will keep on thinking about possibilities, but I may just go with 4X48 on top.

Thanks to all who have posted.
