So I went to the LFS today to get some RO Water and some more live rock for the tank and for about the last month I have noticed that he has had some anemones were hitchikers on some of his live rock. They have been fully extended showing no signs of disease and they appear to be small bubble tip anemones.

The one thing that is quite interesting is that all of the nems have been white, almost like a condy or haitain nem. With them living so long in his tank, I asked how much for one, and the owner said he would sell it to me for $5 because he did not want them.

I have placed it on a small piece of rock to attach even though I know they roam to find their spot.

What I want to know is I plan on feeding mysis to it, good idea?

What do you make of what kind of nem it is?

    What is with the coloring?

It's a green bubble tip that's looking a little bleached to me. Feeding mysis is a good idea, along with krill or silversides too.

Oh, forgot to ask you, what's your lighting situation and tank age? Also, have you read up on how to care for a nem?

I have been reading about them for quite a while because I have been debating on whether to get one or not.

As per my tank it is a 120 Gallon tank with the 48 in Nova Extreme Pro T5 model with 6 bulbs. The tank has been up and running now for 6 months and I am successfully keeping softies, SPS and LPs...all or which are showing excellent growth and polyp extension.

    Ph 8.1
    Salinity 1.024
    Nitrates 0
    Nitrites 0
    Phosphate 0
    Calcium 480-500
    Alk 9 dkh
    temp 76-78 f

If you need any other specs let me know.

I agree, it looks like it's a little bleached at this point, but you are taking all the right steps to get it healthy. Your lights will be more than adequate and putting it first low in the tank is the right move. Feed it about once a week and keep it low. When the algae starts to regenerate and it is ready to feed more off the light it may or may not move up in your tank.

I normally would say too new of a tank, however, if you are successfully keeping SPS, they you are doing very well.

Mysis, Krill, Silversides. Mine loved them all.

    Awesome price BTW.

Well if it is a BTA and I can get it back to full health and start to show some more color without it dying I will go back to the store and pick up the other 4 or 5 that he had that he wants to get rid of for the same price!

Thanks for all the input. I would agree with the statement the tank is to young, but I have seen all my algae blooms (ie cyano, hair algae, and brown diatoms) and have the great growth on all of my corals. As of yet (knock on wood) the only corals I have lost were stubborn zoanthids that may or may not have been superglued upside down!

Mysis shrimp is the way to go at this point. I dont start feeding silversides or anything bigger untill the anemone grows larger. It is bleached, and it is a BTA. A Little TLC and this anemone will rebound in no time. Try soaking the shrimp in some vitamins and a trace amount of iodine, and then gently turkey basting them into the anemone tentacles around the mouth. Every 5 days to a week would be good feeding regiment.

Your tank is old enough assuming you keep good husbandry and things are stable it should be fine. The only thing that concerns me is that you are adding liverock, which can create mini cycles or imbalance in bio filtration at first. Keep that in mind and watch your parameters, GL!
