    PS: I have 2.5g of distilled water, will my corals be all right if i mix 2.5g of Instant Ocean Fish Only salt instead of reef crystals?

    55 gallon, a 10-20 % at 1.023. Inverts handle lowering of SG much better, you have to go slow raising back up. I recommend the use of a refractometer if you are using a hydrometer. Fish tolerate SG of 1.020 just fine but to keep corals and inverts it should be higher IMO. Just keeping doing small water changes until you reach the desired SG.

    Diatoms maybe related to any new equipment, sand, glass you changed when setting it up.

    Yes, IO is fine. I believe the measurement is 1/2 cup per gallon of water to reach a SG of 1.023 but double check the instructions.

    this is a 6g nano reef in question, i just mentioned my 55g FOWLR

    Ok I got confused over what broke when drilled. If that is the case I would just change a 1/2 gallon at a time for the next couple days. Remember evaporation is going to cause the SG to raise quickly in that nano, so you really have to measure the SG daily and account for RO/DI top offs.
