anemone split so wierd

    So i put a green bubble tip anemone in my tank about 5 days ago and i thought the mouth looked kind of wierd this morning when i went to look at it it had split into 2 anemones which kinda sucks cause i liked 1 medium sized one not 2 small ones ive never seen this before. on a lighter notre my percs are hosting it which took 4 days but it happend :D

    That nem was stressed probably due to the move - make sure all your params are correct and that there is sufficient lighting. Your gonna want to keep a close eye on the 2 for the next week or so. Make sure they are not moving around the tank and that everything stays in check. The nems will need food in about a week once their mouths develop and a small piece of silverside every 2-3 days there after will hopefully help them along. If you notice that they are beginning to bleach (almost become colorless and transparent) then they require better lighting and then you must keep even a better eye at this point.

    so your saying they split when there stressed ??

    I've read this numerous times. They split when they are stressed as a survival technique. Better odds that one of two will survive as opposed to just one.

    it must have been stressed where it cam from then becuase the mouth sort of looked like 2 when i put it in my tank it has found a spot and has not moved since i put it in there its still a good green colour i will get a photo if ican the lights just went off though it is still bubble tipped if you knowwhat i mean sometimes the tenticles go really long i heard thats sign of lights not beig good enough i guess time will tell

    as you acn see my cataphylia is doing fine went in same time

    Looking at the pics they dont look to bad at all. I would still just keep a close eye for the next few days and try to feed both in apx 1 week and then every 2-3 days after that for a little while just to make sure they bounce back correctly. Good luck! K+

    so this is an old thread but my nem split again i know have a nem farm lol wish it was a rose tip

    Congratulations!

    FWIW, that's how BTAs multiply in the wild... It's not always from stress. :)
