I decided to give anemones another shot since my h2o is finally being stable. Well the sucker was about 3 inches in diameter when I bought him, but he decided to show his true colors since being itnroduced to my tank, and now he is about 6 or 7 inches in diameter. He is very close to some of my button polyps and some green shrooms. The polyps are fine, probably because they close up when the anemone's sweepers touch them, but the shrooms are beginning to shrivel, as they have no defensive mechanisms. I really, really love these green shrooms (they have such a vibrant color when open, and i've had them since my first tank). The main problem is the anemone is attached to the same rock. Am I able to just pull the anemone off and relocate him without hurting him?

this is why if you search this site I have posted a million times about how a anemone is not a good addition to any community marine tank. Mushrooms themselves are simple anemones and the one with the stronger bit wins as will it be with any coral the anemone touches up on.. Also feeding them will really make them grow fast.. This is why I would and have never hand fed any anemones .

They will find something If they are tank raised Perc's then god luck as they just as soon host in a corner then any animal , I have had clowns to kill clams and elegance corals by hosting inside the clams and digging into my elegance . They just as soon wiggle into a pile of polyps or mushrooms as they would any anemone. This goes for about any clown species I have ever kept . And a conception is the fish needs an anemone and vise versa both are ideas are totally false ..

+1 to both of Tangster's comments. Clowns can always find something to host, and even if you get an anemone, there is no guarantee they will host in it instead of something else. Anemone's just aren't worth all of the risks that come along with them IMHO. And all for what, hosting? Heck my clowns host in a zoa patch ;) A lot easier to take care of and safer to boot! ;)

I agree with above statements...I had a RBTA that I just had to have. I did not heed the warnings of others on this board and of friends and went ahead and got one. Well it was fine for about 6 months...I kept all corals away from that general area of the tank. Well it decided to move one day just slightly and stung my monti! I sold it back to the LFS...

I had to make a decision....did I want my corals or did I want my anemone. Needless to say my corals won!

well maybe its just me but i love my anemone in my coral tank. maybe its just because it settled where i wanted it but its about 10in now and i had to move one of my corals because it was getting stung. i see nothing wrong with having anemones. just know what you are getting into and how big they can get. i feed mine once a week about a 3in silverside and it loves it. if you want it to move. try shading it with a rock or something, it will release its foot and move back into the light. then do what you need to do with it.

I gotta tell ya, I love anemones also. Although, I have had doubts as to whether I want to chance it again. They can be disasterous. My condy got sucked up into a powerhead no too long ago and I got lucky. Found it before it died. Would have fried my tank.

I have no use for anenome's, they are too risky with corals and they also expel a cloudy substance when they die and if they go in your rocks like the seabae I had you have to tear down your reef to get to him. This is just my opinion.
