So I have a beautiful but incredibly stupid true rose bubble anemone. It was in the process of splitting, and got sucked into my maxi jet 135. I shut off the fan and gently worked the anemone out of the fan. I have it in a plastic colander to try to keep it from getting blown around the tank. I looks like crap. Will it be ok? I have had a condy crawl into a fan an live, but I am really worried about my rose. I love it ad I had just gotten it to start splitting. Any help or ideas for me to try to keep the dumb thing alive.

Please, please, please help. I don't want my anemone to die.

Just to clarify: not dead (yet), but seriously shredded. 135 tank+ 100 sump.
Update: it is trying to get a foothold on things, but not very well.

Any tips or tricks to getting them to live after this? It's attached itself to the colander pretty firmly, but it is a significant investment. My condy lived after doing the same thing, but I want to hurry on the healing process.

I have limited experience with anemones, but the best thing you could probably do is nothing.

I would suggest placing some rock rubble in that colander for it to attach to. You may injure in when/if it does heal and is ready to go back into the tank.

I probably would not flood it with light or try and feed it huge meaty items, but I could be wrong on that.

Just some thoughts to bump this back up for a more knowledgeable individual.

    Good luck!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Seems silly to suggest covering your power heads now right????? Anemones have no brain so one might consider them brainless rather than stupid!!!

The colander looks like the best place for it, but man it took a bad bad beating.

I doubt it will be ok, but I would not be surprised either if survived and slowly recovered.

Test for ammonia frequently and remove if you see a detectable level.

Lots of good advice, here. IMOPE, nems are fairly durable under the right conditions.

FWIW, I, too, had a RBTA that went into a powerhead. Mine was so entangled that it couldn't even get itself out after I turned off the pump, and it finally ripped half of it's oral disc off to free itself. Surprisingly, it survived and healed completely in a matter of a few weeks. Totally agree with doing nothing but giving it time and watching it closely.

Update: Well, it's cruising around the colander, I'm not sure f that is a good sign or not. Still looks like crap, but it was in the process of splitting, so maybe it will live. Some tentacles have swelled up again.

I'm going to leave it in the colander until it starts looking more normal, or until someone thinks that I should move it. It almost looks like 4 anemones mushed together, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise? I may end up with multiple anemones after this.

I am covering all the in takes so it won't happen again (should have done that after my condy decided that its tentacles should go into the fan...). The Maxi Jets are getting pantyhose covers and the ecotech came with a foam-ish cover.

Glad to hear it's moving around. That's always a good sign.

I wouldn't try to move it. If it gets near the edge of the colander, you might try tipping it so that edge is against a rock; it just might move out on it's own.

All of the following info I'm about to give is from other 3reefers from when my BTA had a powerhead related accident..

-You can have the lights on, but not for as long.
-Don't move it. That'll stress it out, and any more stress added to it is no good.
-Keep feeding it (or start to, if you don't already. apparently it helps)
-If it goes completely limp or starts losing tentacles, throw it out.
