    Just wondering these things:

    - what type of nem is it?
    - how long has your tank been set-up?
    - what type of lighting do you have?
    - what are your water params?
    - do you target feed the nem?
    - how long have you had your nem?

The reason I ask is because the answers to those questions may help you successfully keep nems in the future. Usually a nem will get sucked into an intake or ph when it's wandering. They wander if they're unhappy with something, lighting/water quality/flow/food source.

If you just put the nem into the tank recently, it's best to try and shut your ph's down initially so they can hopefully foot themselves. I also find it's best to feed the nem a small piece of shrimp soon after they've settled. I think it's a good way for them to associate food with where they have footed.

Best of luck, let us know the answers above so we can be more helpful and it might save you a nem tank disaster in the future.

    He is a Green BTA
55 gal tank; HOT power filter; eshopps protein skimmer; 4, 48" bulb T5 lighting; 2 Koralia3 powerheads
tank has been set up for about 5 months.
Parameters: (as of last week) Ammonia-0; nitrite-0; nitrate-5; pH- 8.2

I was feeding him krill by hand.
had nem about 2- 2.5 weeks.

When I first put him in, he planted and move about 3 inches towards the back of the tank right when I put him in and then stayed there for about 5 days and was doing great. Then I added another K3 and moved some rockwork around. The next morning was when he was stuck in the filter intake. He survived, and was footed again and doing welllbetween the rock and glass. And then I woke up this morning...

Got it, thanks for the in depth info. Sounds like he didn't like the added flow & re-aquascaping & decided to move. Although there are reasons nems move that I mentioned in my last post, sometimes they just do what they want when they want.

    - Do you know what your extended params are: Calcium, Alkalinity, Magnesium & what's your salnity at?

    Thanks

If you turn off any powerheads, expect the nem to move when they're turned back on. Nems need consistency; if you turn off a powerhead and it finds a spot that it likes, then the flow changes on them, they'll move.

I've been lucky, I have turned mine off when adding my nems and they footed and have remained there after turning them back on.

I was hoping that he was just happy and didn't notice the flow (ha. )
now I know I have to cover my power heads too. I should have known better, but I am still a little ticked at my LFS for saying I don't have to .

I dont have a test kit for the extended paramaters. but my salinity is pretty stable at1.026
I been needing to ask someone about the extended paramaters and if i should be testing for them .

What "extended parameters"? Nitrates? Phosphates? Alk/Cal/Mag?

A great way to get BTAs to stay where you want them is to put them in a spot where their foot will be completely surrounded by rock so they feel safe.
