My GBTA went down the overflow tube somehow:confused:... It was stuck in the first section filter media in sump. It is a 1 inch thick pond filter sponge. I found it and have placed the whole sponge in the display tank.. It does not seem to want to let go of the sponge. Any ideas on how to remove it. There also seems to be some white stuff at the top of the foot.

I'm sure as long as it's not dead or dying it will move at some point, if not, put it somewhere you know it won't be happy, such as where it was before it decided to re-locate to your overflow, and be patient. You can also aim a powerhead at it, some people have used an ice cube on the foot however that hasn't worked for me.

I would clip the songe media to the side of your tank so it won't get blown around the tank. Then get a low-moderate flow powerhead and aim it either at the foot or the stalk, it will move soon enough.

Thanks...I have since gotten him off. Now it has attached itself to the glass and does not look very good. It is still moving a little and its tentacles look a little better. How do I know if it is dying?

The base will lose color and it will not be able to hold on very well. Also, the tenticles will lose their "stickiness".

I haven't experienced this, but I have read that they will smell really bad if you pull them out of the water. My GBTA was all shriveled up last week for 2 days, so I pulled the rock it was attached to out of the water and smelled it. Mine has gone back to normal, but they will fade like Pharmrjohn said, the zooxanthellae will get expelled which is where they lose the brown color. Check if it's slimy or if it will "grab" your finger or cleaning stick. I fed mine a little piece of krill to see if it would react normally to a feeding. Got a pic of it?
