Hey guys I have a quick question for everyone. Im new to Salwater tanks and have a 75gal tank with 20 gal sump. Two days ago I purchased my first anemone, its a hatian pink tip. I drip acclimated him and put him in the tank. Yesterday he didnt move off of the rock that I had put him on and woke up this morning and he crawled under the rock into a little cave. Is this anything to be worried about?

Nems are one of the more difficult creatures to keep in an aquarium. They need perfect/stable water params, a mature tank, and excellent lighting. As for it hiding in rocks I've heard of them hiding for a bit, but they will roam around and find a spot they like. If you don't mind me asking, how old is your tank? I'm not an expert and I've never had a nem, but there are a lot of very intelligent people on 3reef so im sure you'll find the answer your looking for. Plus some others you may not have known you were looking for.

I was afraid someone was going to ask how old the tank was. Its only 3 months old and I know that the tank should be more mature before I bought it. But an anemone is one of the reason that I got into SW. So I rushed it a little bit, not quite spur of the moment but a little rushed.

Yeah it's definitely best to not get an anemone until you're at least 6-8 months+ in. Not only will your tank hopefuly be more stable and established but you as a hobbyist will have a better grasp of everything of water params, etc.

What type of lighting do you have over your tank? Lighting is huge in keeping nems happy, adequate flow is also something that will make them wander. Have you screened off intakes/powerheads so the nem doesn't wander and get stuck, die, crash the tank?

You sound like you did your homework but just jumped the gun a bit, just don't get yourself into a situation where you mess up a tank that was on its way to stable by wanting something that you weren't quite ready for, that would be a shame. And that's the main reason the more exp hobbyists advise against them too soon, or even at all.

I have 4 T5 ho with individual reflectors just over the tank with 2 koralia evolution 1050, the intake and the powerheads are both screened off. From what I have heard that is normal for the nem to hide when first introduced. Wanted to ask and see if it is indeed normal for this behavior nor not.

Nems can be erratic, spontaneous, I think that's why some don't like the idea of keeping them. A lot of their behavior is still a mystery. What type of bulbs are you running in your fixture? Where is the nem in relation to the light, high up?

I have a Rose Bubble that has split 3 times. So far all is going well with it & it's clones. IOt does wander around its rock every so often, it may shrink and expell waste if I target feed it, but usually it's always out in the light, that's when it's happiest.

If he stays under the rock for more then a day you might have to move him mine seem to not come out if it went in hiding, the first condy purple tip I had for almmost 8 months liked to be at the bottom of the tank light wise with almost no flow.

He is towards to bottom of the tank, maybe 2-3 inches above the sand bed, but centered length wise at the back of the tank. He stayed where I put him, except he crawled to the bottom the rock. I have 1 actinic bulb and 2 10,000k and 1 18,000k.
