this is a noob Question. But..... When and why do anemone split? Can anyone split an anemone or do they have to split on there own and what is the rate of survive if a person dose it?

Anenomes split for a variety of reasons. The water quality is bad, they've been stressed or can be good reasons like they are ready to reproduce. I've heard that you can split them, but when they cost so much it seems like a risky proposition. I also would not like to be the reason that it dies. I had a rose bta split. One half died a couple of days later. The other died a couple of months later, never acted the same. Recently I had a purple/green tip bta split. Both are doing fine (for now). THis happened about 4 months ago. I have heard that if you do an extreme water change it will stress them out enough to split. THe problem with that is that you are also stressing out everything else in the tank. You don't want to kill any coral, fish, etc. for this experiement.

Depends on the anemone I find that BTA are the easiest and Carpets don't do very well and all others in between here . I have dissected them all and have lost them all but the BTA . BTA I cut into 1/4 's right through their oral opening.. start with one and end up with 4 ..

ok, so its a 50/50 survive ratio on both copys. but it is easyer to have at least a 75/25 ( if i can put it that high)survive ratio on a BTA?

the reason i ask is i would like my LTA to split so my domino can have one and the anemone will not kill each other ,and was wondering if PAR played a part in it. this way i could give "it" a little boost

Not necessarily if by LTA you mean you have a Condylactis or Macrodactyla anemone then they cut up very well if you slice them right through the mouth they will heal back up and form a circle shape again in a few days . Any with any anemone after they split naturally or one is injured really badly or you cut one ? always run carbon and do water changes .. for a few days during and after the cutting or natural splitting
