Hi all. I have a question reguarding my biocube anenome tank. I have a 29 gallon biocube. I set the tank up a little over a year ago, specifically for anenomes. I know this is a little small, however I have 6 saltwater tanks, so my plan was to grow the nems and transfer to other homes when needed. I waited for 6 months after starting, then started adding nems. Fast foward to now, which is about 6 months after beginning to add nems. I now have (don't kill me)
    5 mini maxi Carpets
    10 Rock (Flower)
    1 Rainbow bubble tip
    1 Green Bubble tip
    2 Rose Bubble tip
    1 Seabae
    1 Aururoa
    3 Tube
    1 Long Tentacle
The Long Tentacle is the most recent addition, and the subject of the post. I have not had any problems whatsoever mixing species over the past 6 months. I researched and found many different opinions on the subject, but no hard facts to support either case, so I took the dive. All has been well. I did have an issue with green hair algae while learning to feed all these nems, but I tackled that problems a few months ago and all has been well.
I believe my long tentacle is killing my other nems. One of the rock nems(the one closest to the lta) is shedding his tentacles. I doesn't appear to be suffering any distress other than this. Still eating and pooping. The aururoa nem is a different story. After adding the lta he detached from his home and started moving. Now I'm sure he's on the way out. I am also missing a mandarin goby from what I can tell.
My question is not "is the lta the suspect". I really don't care. I feel like my expierince over the last year with this tank has been more one of luck than of season. I'm more interested in eliminating multiple species from my tank, but I would like to keep them all.
    So......
    1. Can the LTA go in a mixed reef? Or would he sting my corals?
    2. Can the LTA go in a seahorse system?
    3. I have a tank with large hermits only...with nems attached to their backs! Can my LTA go here, or would the hermits eat him(they like to eat them nems off each others backs sometimes :))?
    4. Of my species listed, which are "reef safe"?
    5. Could the LTA go in an aggressive tank with puffers?
Sorry so many questions, I still have more, just want a base to start with to see which way to go. Thanks!!

A LTA could go in a mixed reef but I would make sure once it finds a "spot" that you move corals a good distance from it because they can sting corals. I wouldn't put it in with large hermits given how you describe them. All of your species should be reef safe if given enough space from corals. I'm not familiar with an aurora so I can't comment on that one. You may have trouble keeping the LTA with a puffer for two reasons - the puffer may bother it and water quality may be an issue with the puffer (not sure what else you have in there but I'm assuming more aggressive fish needing a good amount of feeding). I can't answer about the seahorse system because I don't know about seahorse/anemone compatibility. HTH - I'm sure others will hopefully chime in.

I would love to see a picture of your system with all of those anemones! I love anemones :)

I can't offer very much advise but I would love to see some pictures of your tank... well all of them actually. Especially the hermits with anemones on their shells.

Ok. I've decided to mix my anenome and aggresive tanks. I had 3 large carpets in the aggresive tank. I sold the purple one for 300 and the other two(green carpets, one atlantic one pacific) for 100. They're gone. I'll turn the biocube(formerly the anenome tank) into a mantis shrimp tank. I'll put the hermits in with him, which will eliminate the hermit tank. I'll also leave a species or two of anemomes in there with them. They don't seem to bother bigger nems, just the little ones on each others backs. The long tentacle will be sold. He seems to be the one causing problems to me. I'm also going sell some of the rock(flower)nems.

    As far as pics go....
Here's on the the 90 reef. It's in a little bit of disarray right now(I don't like the rock work) because I moved the rocks away from the wall so I could build a live rock wall for the background. I'll install it in a few days. I'll put some more pics up then if you want. That tanks actually pretty cool. I custom made the durso pipe, sump with refug, and externally plumped the skimmer. Now the rock wall, and a guy is coming over this weekend to map out plans for a canopy. I don't feel I have the skills needed to do it myself. Lot a electricity wiring and what not.
Also here are pics of the biocube and the hermits with anenomes.
No pics of the aggressive tank right now-I had a catastrophe in there. The electricity went out at night and the tank got too cold. I lost 4 fish(clown trigger, minatus grouper, humu humu trigger, and valentine puffer), and the lobster collected them and brought them to his cave. Couldn't go get them because of the purple mouth eel in there. I figured all would be well because of all the aggressive stars I have in there(I use stars in the aggressive tank to take care of the detrius, because I can't have snails, hermits, or crabs). Next thing I know my stars started melting :( Don't know if it was the temp or the waste created from the dead fish, but I lost 7 of 8 stars. So anyway, the tank is ripped apart right now. I took out all the stars and fish, but I can't get the rockwork like I had it....grrrr
The seahorse tank isn't a seahorst tank yet. It's set up and cycled, has a toby puffer, replacement valentine puffer, miniatus grouper, and clown trigger. I use the tank as an extra for events like I just described, and with all these tanks, stuff keeps popping up :)

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Back to your original post: If the LTA was being housed in the same bio-cube as the others then yes you will see issues the tank is simply too small to mix so many types.

Wow quite the eclectic taste in fish you have. Get large tanks, a 90 is not going to cut it if you choose the same fish types again. I hope one of your 6 tanks is really big.

The 90 gallon is looking awesome

    You obviously love this hobby.

Yeah, I figured that out. Eventually I've got this really good idea. It's gonna cost a ton and take a while to plan out, but basically I want a 200 gallon "pillar" in a 300 gallon "moat". The pillar will raise out of the center of the moat and overflow into it. Each side of the moat will be a seperate ecosystem, as will the pillar. Just have to figure out the filtration and electric. Like I said, it will be a while...few years. In the meantime I'll just keep what I got and combine the nem tank. Thanks for the input!

Sweet. There are a ton of nems in there lol. Looks really cool. Thanks for sharing.

Can't wait for the build thread on that tank. Nems in the middle column, aggressive on one side and reef on the other. Great idea. The filtration on that thing will be a work of art lol.
