Hi guys if u have seen my other threads i have decided NOT to get a trigger, mantis shrimp, or octopus What i am going to get is 2 false percula clown fish but i want a anemone also i want a rose tip or a bubble tip anemone my dads tank is about 7 months old our levels read.

    Nitrites 0

    Nitrates 0

    Ammonia 0

    Ph 8.2

    Salinity 1.024

I'm using stock lighting in a 29 gallon bio cube i now and have seen 29 gallon bio cubes with stock lighting being able to successfully raise bubble tipped and rose tipped anemones i bought 15 pounds of live premium established live rock out of my LFS's 3 year old display tank the rocks have many different colored sponges on them and mushrooms. In ur GUYSES OPINION do u think as far as my water quality gos can i support a anemone. I dont now if alkalinity and calcium has anything to do with anemones. Also i need to now what i feed my anemone i use a reef supplement already, called Coral Vital it ''Ses it accelerates growth of coralline alga-es and enhances color of corals it promotes micro bubble formation produces cavitation's within micro organisms created beneficial increases in available free oxygen channels light radiant waves which favorably influences UV penetration'' so do i just feed him things like frozen shrimp and prawns from the grocery store sea food ile? And how often do i feed him is it every other day? If i have forgotten anything let me now what Else a anemone requires. I am the care taker of my dads tank and he trusts me to make sure it looks good sense its in are business office. As of right now i have 1 mandarin goby, by what i here from u guys is what is going to make me decide if i get 1 or not i am definitely getting 2 false percula clowns tomorrow tho. The LFS guy i buy my stuff from has a Very Very Very healthy rose tip anemone that is absolutely beautiful. No bleaching on him His foots well secured in a rock All of his tentacles are fully extended. Right now all i have for corals is 1 purple star polyp rock 1 green star polyp rock and 1 rock with many mushrooms. ;D i tried my best to spell right so give me a brake O-o

P.S If anyone read about my mandarin goby thread i made a few days ago in the ASAP forum hes doing very very well i bought 4 containers of live amphipods and copepods and hes actually getting fatter :)

I'm not sure about the lighting in a BC long-term for an anemone, it's probably a bit low unless you get a deepwater BTA. Someone else can comment on that. If it's going in the HQI you mentioned in other threads, that would work for lighting.

You need to establish the tank very well before you put in the anemone, like a year. I would personally use an ATO, since you're going to want to have your salinity stay consistent. Dosing pumps would help too, to help keep pH constant. You'll want a skimmer at the least on the tank, and probably a refugium as well.

I wouldn't want to have any corals in the tank, at least until the anemone is settled in a spot for a month of more. Otherwise, you're looking at trouble when it decides to walk around the tank and kill a bunch of your coral or itself.

A much easier route than an anemone, which has an abysmal long term survival rate (and is caught in the wild ;D), is keeping a torch coral instead. Clowns love to host them just as much as they like an anemone.

Also, false perculas don't really host BTAs too often; it's not their natural kind of anemone. You'd be looking for a different species of anemone, all of which are harder to keep than BTAs. False percs may not ever host anything, anyway, since they're tank bred and won't know what the anemone is like their wild relatives.

What exactly is your stock lighting? They came with several options.

I have the same tank you do, a couple of months younger. I purchased an anemone but found that due to the tank age it was relatively unstable and I took back to the store. Everything I read told me that the tank should be a year old or more to be mature enough to keep it healthy.

Anemones love light & will move to where it likes the light & water flow. Keeps in mind, not all clown fish will take to an anemone since almost all are farm raised. Mine took 6 months to finally take to an anemone.

There is a chance that the clowns might not even host the anemone. The anemone will eat/kill the coral you have. Anemone can move mind you. No the light will not support the anemone, you will need at min T5 or better like MH. Most anemone die within 6months to 1 year. Your anemone might be suffering and you won't notice till it is to late.
TIP: You know if you can take care a anemone if you know how to spell it correctly.
You can get a fake anemone if you want. Like a frogspawn or a ricordia.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I have been keeping BTA's for years. The pictures I have included are Rose BTA under PC lighting in a Aquapod. It is essential to change out the PC bulbs every 6 months.

Most clowns will reside in a BTA. Thousands of year of evolution are not going to disappear because a clown has never seen an anemone and is tank raised.

If you are set on doing this, I would just stick with the clowns and the anemones for starters. At least the LFS has a healthy one that is always a good start.

    Keep asking questions.;D

I would question whether the behavior of hosting the anemone is an evolved trait, rather than a learned one, passed down through many generations of clownfish.

I won't argue about the thick slime coat and coloration being an evolutionary trait, though.
