    I had the same thing when i had an aiptasia problem (peppermints sorted them out)

    The large aiptasia was releasing a sort of mucus which by it's viscosity i assumed was sperm, like you i also wondered if it might have an impact on the quality of water.

    Due to the nature of the liquid i have found its more than easy to remove by using a wooden skewer, or a net.
    Just wrap it round and remove it in strands.

    Kinda gross i know but i guess alot of reef keeping is lol.

    omg thats amazing - a pic of it shooting out - i always beleived that they split themselves in half too.
