angelfishes???

hei guys! i have toadstol coral, plate coral (long tentacle), green finger (soft) and candy cane...
and i really want small angelfish! and i checked it says
REEF COMPATIBLE = WITH CAUTION
which angel can i keep that wont eat my corals?

Flame and coral beauty are usually more safe then others. But the "with caution" applies to all. Some will nip, some wont. Some will only nip certain things. And all this applies to each fish as an individual, not just as a species. I would recommend getting one through a good LFS, that way if you run into trouble with it, you can always take it back.
For what its worth, I used to keep a singapore angel. It would nip SPS and clams. But it left LPS, leathers and softies alone.

 

I'm not experienced with this but I know I was looking into the same question when I was originally planning a reef tank. The concensus(sp?) that I have got from a few different people at LFS is that it is not recommended ever unless your willing to take the risk of losing your coral. Not that its a "for sure" thing, there is no science to it but its an "at your own discretion" type of thing from what i've gathered. Hope it helps!!

the only reef safe angels are the genicanthus species. They arent a dwarf species but they dont get as large as some of the big boys like the imperator or queen. However, i have a red sea regal in my reef with no issues ( again not a dwarf species but it is "reef safe with caution") and is doing fine in my reef and not bothering any corals or clams.

I have a flame angel and he wont nip at my clams or my sps. but he destroys soft corals in my tank. it really depends on the fish. They are pritty wierd when it comes to it because one of my friends tanks, he has a flame angel and he had two clams but the flame angel only would nip at the deresa and not the maxima. he eventually killed the deresa but the maxima hasnt been disturbed

 

its another name for what i like to call Reef Safe With Luck.
meaning its a shot in the dark, and varies enough by each fish that collectively as a species they cant be classified as one or the other. Usually its with a greater percentage of fish being reef safe.
if your lucky it will work out perfectly. if your not, kiss your corals good by.

My fireball has thus far not nibbled on anything ,(that I did not put in for it to eat) some years ago I had a rusty angelfish and that was fine, but I have also had coral beauty that did nip at corals and a flame that was like wise inclined

some species are safer than others, but you can get exceptions to most rules
