Sorry, forgot to respond about the corals.

I can't do them because of lighting. The peacock can't be kept in high lighting as it will develop shell rot.

Picked up a stand last night, taking it to the office this morning.

Also, the tank is scheduled to arrive today!

If all goes well, I'll have pics up later :)

These are one of my favorite animals.

You can do low light corals with O.s. They just need to be attached to the rock well or they might become decorations in it's den. With the O.s. species (Peacock), they are susceptible to something called shell disease if they are given too much light.

Do I need to put anything under the tank before I set it on the stand? The tank is Acrylic but not rimless.

What low light corals do you use or would you suggest?

I am only using the lighting in my office, no additional light will be provided.

One can grow palythoa, green star polyps, zoanthids, many mushrooms under NO (Normal Output) lighting. However, that would be NO lighting right on top of the tank as opposed to being all the way on the ceiling.

i would suggest doing more caves in the rock work. Looking at the last rock picture, i see some caves but more in the top part of the rock. All the peacocks that I have had actually made their caves in the bottom part of the tank on the sand. What I did with all my peacocks was I bought at large piece of pvc that was y-shaped. I then built the rock work around that (covering the top) but leaving all 3 openings up. Remember that peacocks can get upto 12" so their holes should reflect that. (Bob was probably 11-12")

The other thing you will need to do is put some rock rubble/shells in there. Peacocks, esp during molting, are busy housewifes. They will redecorate the rocks (if they can) and will need to be able to close off their dens when they molt. I had a bunch of rock pieces in the tanks and it gave them the opportunity to re-decorate.

The pic you have looks like my Bob! (aka bobita). I lost her after she layed a brood of eggs and then went right into a molt.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm actually redoing the scape again today. We'll see what I can come up with.

I am trying not to use PVC as I want this to be as natural as possible. The peacock won't shape the PVC, but it can the rock.

My last mantis made its own cave and I'm sure the peacock will as well. I've also talked to Dr. Roy who said that they live in caves/burrows that are generally longer. As such, I'm going to see what I can come up with.

There will be plenty of shells and rubble for him :). I have lots of snails for him to use as he pleases.

As for the pic, I take no credit for it. I took it from another site :)

i am not sure what type of mantis you had before, but also remember that peacocks are smashers/spearers. You will need to make sure his diet includes some snails and that he has rocks to smash or else his smashers can atrophy away!

I cant wait to follow this thread!
