Sadly, my mantis passed away last week. Developed shell rot and went quickly :(

I thought about what to put in next and decided on an angler.

I got an email that a LFS had a Angler in stock. Said it was a white painter. I left work at lunch to go take a look.

Took one look at the little guy and made a decision:

If anyone can help ID, that'd be great

put some colored stuff in your tank, depending on their diet and their surroundings they cna change colors. I had a red one turn yellow and in process of trying to get back to red. What is he eating

    Thanks.

Right now the tank is just live rock, but I've been contemplating putting some marco in there for color now.

As far as food, I just got him, but the LFS said he was eating live ghost shrimp and frozen krill and mysis.

Your pics are a tad fuzzy, and to really nail down the ID, you'll want to show us the fish's illicium and esca ("rod" and "bait"). However, if the LFS is calling it a "painted angler", and they're correct, your fish is Antennarius pictus. If this is the case, expect it to reach 5"-6" in captivity.

One word of advice: Don't overfeed it (2x a week is fine for an adult, go 3x for a juvie), and keep the food size small (eye size to maybe twice that size for adults). Anglers have super slow metabolisms, and food can actually rot in their GI tracts if it's too large, or too much.

lol, i sure cant see him in your rock work.......he is yellow correct? I feed mine only 2x a week not too many ghost shrimps at a time as Greg said. Their eyes are bigger then their stomach and they will literally eat themself to death. You will hardly see your little guy move at all, even when feeding.

Lol...Oddly enough, he has changed colors already.

He was white when I picked him up at the store. By the time I got him back to the tank he was yellow (as you saw in the initial pictures).

And now, he is back to white again already. He blends in really well with the rock work in those pictures.
