I work at an LFS, BTW! I got really aggravated as a customer, with things like no Magnesium test and no ground probes. I would also get really testy with the livestock manager because he would tell me that I couldn't have something that I really wanted in my tank...how dare he...

Scott really cares that the critters that we sell end up in homes where they will be happy and I often hear our people saying, "You can't have that! or That won't live in your tank!" We keep files on our customers, what size tank they have, their water parameters (if we test their water) and what type of equipment/what other livestock they have. The only time we sell something that won't be happy in a customers aquarium is when they lie to us about their gear/current livestock. And believe me, when they figure out that we're honest about what can/can't go in their tanks, they start lying!

Now we carry Mg tests and ground probes along with a few other things that we weren't carrying before. I'm trying to affect some changes, as well as keep costs down for our customers.

No, you can tell when some one cares about the animals, because then they elaborate on what you can/should do for it. Not well, you need to buy this this and this, and then you can throw in this fish and then this one, when all i asked for is a hermit crab. I would uinderstand if they said, Whats in your tank, how big, this is what they eat, this one would make a good addition....but no, its all sell sell sell. They sold me two clowns with disease.

Yeah, I'd find a new LFS! I'd also find someone, maybe in a local reef club, that already keeps seahorses and see if they're up to adopting yours. They are hard to keep, and only advanced hobbyists should even try, just my opinion!

Oh i dont have any seahorses, i was just curious. But like i said before, the last time i was in there and asked them to get a blue devil damsel for me the guy just reached his hand in the tank and started to chase one around and then cornered it (rather than use a net) he then pinched its tail and it popped off! he tossed the poor lil thing into a bag (not placed or even let it plop from a short distance but literally TOSSED it) and then shrugged and said its tail should grow back. Needless to say i wanted so much to back hand the guy, take the poor tailess fish and run, but alas, i had to be a ladt and request he use a net to catch another one.

I think I would have decked him!

BTW--catching fish is the bane of my existance! Our landlord came in Friday and said, "I'll be back in ten minutes, can you catch me the 'three smallest PJ cardinals." Well we have like 10 of them and most are larger. The little ones are wicked fast when being chased (say with a net). Took me about 10 minutes, which wasn't bad, but he came back in 20 and said, "I'm sorry, I'm running late I'll be back Tuesday!" AGH! He was not my favorite person!

i don't think i would go back there, i would have asked him if he was slow in the head, you pay 10 dollars for a fish you don't want it messed up, second you don't want it messed up even if its free. reminds me of a video i saw about killing cow the kosher way

I would stop reading my post now if you dont want to know

the kosher way to kill a cow is to flip it up side down, slit its throat. drop it down and let it scramble around on the floor tell it dies while shooting out massive amounts of blood. any way the reason it remind me of it because one of the workers i saw in the video would kick blood in the dying cows faces while it was dying on the ground. the guy at the lfs just seemed to be a mean spirited person like him.
