I'm sure I'm not the only one on here that get's annoyed with salespeople that convince new fish tank owners to buy things that their tanks can't support. I was cruising around some online stores tonight and ran across this 8 gallon tank for sale. And we wonder why newbies put tangs in tanks that are too small.

The people hired to do the graphics for these companies don't understand aquariums nor fish. They are told to make something pretty and attractive that will make their product sell. The graphic artists do some Googling, find pretty pictures that they see often, and then make their design. They are people with an eye towards art. They are only looking at pictures and not reading about con-specifics nor the size of tank needed for that species. They know art and graphic design.....that's it. Actually, this is pretty mild. One time I saw a large Lionfish with a royal gramma and a mandarin. At least most of the "annoying sales gimmics" are honest mistakes (I assume). Tetra is NEVER going to live down the truly irresponsible behavior they had on national TV when Finding Nemo came out. They ARE selling their products to the US saltwater market, they are just selling it under different brand names through licensing agreements.

nevermind I looked it up and found it. I wish I could find the video of it though. did she really put a blue tang, 2 clownfish, 2 Seahorses, and a Brittle Star in a 15 gallon tank?

Well, I don't recall exactly what animals were added but it was ridiculous. It was devastating to responsible reefkeeping forums because there were 5 gazillion threads opening up to decry the Evil of Tetra every half hour it seemed.

Meanwhile, no one who had experience with the hobby at all was helping new members, trying to solve difficult issues with other intermediate or long-term members, or doing anything positive. It was a distraction from 3Reef's goals so it's fine that you can't find the video.

It sounds like its a good thing they arent coming out with a finding nemo 2 then. I only know that because ellen always talks about it on her show (I mean of course when my girlfriend is watching it, I swear lol)
