I bought a pair of Clownfish about a month ago. Long story short, they didn't get along and I'm pretty sure one got injured, infected, and died.

I bought another one the other day to make the pair again. This one is smaller so I'm hoping they get along and sex themselves. Does it sometimes take a while for them to pair up or is the one Clownfish just a jerk?

Side note: The bigger one seemed to welcome new guy in, rubbed up against him n such but since has still just kinda done its own thing. It's kinda sad cause the little seems to follow the bigger one and wants to be friends but the big one is doin its own thing.

As long as the other one is not chasing it trying to kill it I would say you are good.Just keep an eye on the little guy.

I started with 3small Ocellarus not knowing that pairs are better. Two larger paired up and chased the third around abit. I bought 3more larger and 2 bubble tip Anemones to smooth things over. In the end the smallest of the six went MIA( killed) and the other 5 are now a school with no obvious pairs ! Though I've been told they don't school !

That's awesome. You must post pictures of these schooling clowns.

Its always so tough to tell with clowns, I bought the last 2 black ones from a local shop, they were in a tank together so I figured they would be fine. Put them in my tank, they found the anenomie(sp) and one drove the other out of it, he hung out here and there for a couple days and a short time later the smaller one was dead. Keep a close eye on them.

Even if you do have a mated pair, there's no guarantee that they will even get along. Sometimes one mate will reject the other.

From what I've come to notice is that clowns are nuts! Sometimes they are happy go lucky fish and others are a nightmare on your nerves. Clowns will sometimes sleep near the surface on their sides others will host powerheads or even clumps of cyano. A pair in the tank at a lfs just means they tollerate one another not that their mated be catious when seeing this if they don't interact with one another their likely not mated, when your at the lfs that is. At home one tends to follow the other sometimes it's a companion thing sometimes it's a lost puppy phase with new introductions watch the littleone as said the bigger could just get fed up and out right ambush the little one. But if the littleone breaks off and does it's own thing and the bigger comes to investigate once in a while then your likely good. Mine split up then one gets lonely and will dash back to the other.

I'm not sure if it's because I added two bubble tips at the same time but all five clowns take turns with the anemones. They swim from one to the other and back again. My two smallest are the aggressors and perhaps this is the reason the school is fine?
They sleep in the bottom corner together bouncing off of one another creating a tight ball of clowns. Has anyone else had this with their Clowns?
