So I've been hunting this crab for months if not a year. Got a somewhat good picture of it. You can't see the legs though but the have blonde or tan hair on them. The crab's body is like almost the size of a half dollar. I'll finally hopefully be able to get it out when I transfer this tank into my new one.[IMG]

Edit: sorry the picture is sideways but if you cock yer head to the left it'll look better

Wanna open this up in paint and circle the thing? I can't make it out.

I see it in there, and it looks like a red emerald to me,but very hard to tell from the pic, plus can't see its claws.I'm sure a better pic would let someone be able to better id it.

It actually looks similar to this...

legs are hairier and the claws aren't hairy. It is pure dark brown though, not sure on the shape though. If I could get a better picture of him I would. I only ever see it once in a great while normally weeks go by without a trace.

It does look similar to a mithrax crab but I have one concern but may be trivial. The bumpy top of the body is backwards to every picture I've seen of the mithrax. The crab in my tank has a bunch of bumps right around the eyes and smooth towards the back. All the mithrax crabs are smooth in the front and bumpy towards the back.

I understand with getting a better pic, sometimes easier said then done. But a general rule of thumb is if it's claws are pointed, they are generally a meat picker, rounded claws are generally algae pickers(that is just a broad generalization as i'm no crab expert and there are many many species of hitch hiker crabs). But i would keep trying to get a positive id before i would consider it reef safe.Hope that helps some.:)
