So I'm considering placing a dwarf lionfish species in my 55 gal LR tank. Other fish I would like to add are: Picasso trigger, yellow tang and dogface puffer.

I think the Trigger and Tang will be ok but will the dog face puffer start to fin nip? ::)

    Thanks a bunch.

Nope. I had a dogface and dwarf lion in my tank with no problems. The yellow tang won't be suitable for your tank. The dogface and trigger will eventually outgrow the tank also.

Its more of the small shrimp I would be worried about. Just keep him fed and everything will be fine... fish and shrimp

All of those fish will outgrow that tank, the lion may be okay but it's on the small size. But as for compatablility they should be okay. Just watch the puffer and the trigger don't nip at the lions fins.

I have other larger tanks that will accomadate these guys once they get bigger. I find alot of folks on here will point out that this fish or that fish will out grow your tank. Some of the best tanks I've known have always been too small for their fish occupants lol. Fish that live in closed environements tend to grow slower and don't get as large as their free swimming cousins. I know this because I have seen many enourmous Picasso Triggers as an example and puffers in the blue realm and am amazed as to how large they actually get in the wild. I have yet to see any of these species reach those sizes in ones living room. Just my observation and study over 30 years of doing this.

All of those fish are a risk because they are grazers/pickers. Some times it does work out, but if you want to try it, you have to have a plan B. We had a Picasso with a lion for 6 years. Luckily he never touched the lion. But one day he got himself envenomated and died.
