I was moving a rock yesterday to make room for a monti cap coral and when I picked up the rock amphapods scattered like roaches. This got me thinking,

Which pods to mandarin goby's eat? I see a lot of mention of copapods, isopods and amphopods and some threads that just say they eat pods. I have a fuge and a fairly large population of all three types. The amphapods look a bit too large but isopods and copapods would easily fit in the mandarins mouth.

I think they will eat all three types, but I'm not positive on this.

Hmm, anyone else have an oppinion? It is more of a curiosity question because Smog the mandarin is nice and plump. My wife keeps calling him the fat fish but I really think the lawnmower blenny has that title.

I thought it was just copapod, my amphopods in my tank are HUGE. They might eat the mandarin, lol.

I see my mandarin eating just about anything that looks like a pod/creepy crawly..

THings to remeber with Mandarin's they can be a finicky eater..Or even a over eater meaning they will eat all to alot of pods and not have a happy ending... SO when in Doubt there are other food's out there such as frozen pods i cant remeber the name off hand.. And i have seen people stock there tank with live pods....

    Best of Luck...

My mandarin does poke at food during feeding time and I've got a 10 or 11 gallon fuge so the pop population is pretty stable.

    Thanks for the tips

If you have Alot of micro algae in your fuse you can take a handfull of it and dip it in your DT so the pods with come out and end up in your DT then all your fish will have a tasty treat.. Of course return your Micro algae to your Fuse.... Just another two crusty cents....

    BEst of luck...

I normally rinse the chaeto off in the DT when I'm disposing of the overgrown stuff. I normally get a couple softball size chunks every 10 to 15 days that needs to be thrown away.
