i went to check out a new pet shop that opened and they have saltwater but i wasnt to impressed. i asked the guy questions they didnt seem to knowledgable. i was asking what they fed there eels and all they feed them is goldfish i asked about frozen foods and he looked at me like i was nuts. so if anyone has a new pet shop/ saltwater fish check it out good before you buy. dont be afraid to ask the owner questions and to ask if the fish are eating and see what they are eating before you make a descision on buying someting. he had dead mandarin in his display tank with some wrasses ( not compatable) and was bragging that i should come back after he gets his 75 gallon display tank set up, which i can only imagine what that would look like when thats done. just be careful of buying fish from stores like this if you have experience or even if you dont. get some knowledge on the type of fish you would like to get before you go to buy it. even if you know someting already ask them a question on it to see if they know anything about the fish themselves its a good test to see how they are taken care of in the shop.

I went into a Fish Shop the other day, a new one for me, just checking it out. There was a dead fish in there. Now what the? How can u have a dead fish in the display? It cant have just died the minute before I walked in. THAT annoys me. Also the amount of triggers and blue tangs in the shops around here. Not something the average saltwater keeper should have. hmmmmmmmmmm

Unfortunately, some FS gets so busy that they overlook dead stock in the tanks and "for sale" containers. Many times those dead carcasses serve as food for the other fish, sad but true. When there is disease infestation like ick or velvet in the tanks and they do nothing, that is a problem. Many times they are just plain ignorant and just don't know any better. One store's worker also fed goldfish to the lions, she had no clue it was bad for their health until I told her. I am happy to say that after that, they started feeding their fish properly, frozen krill and are one of the best LFS in my area now.

i was so anti petland for the longest time, but the bf and i went on a fish store marathon over the weekend (hit up the living sea, coral reef, aquitropics, and lastly petland) at petland we were lookin at the salt water tanks and the manager came up. really down to earth guy, knew loads about fish. ended up buying a nice piece of lr (brought the price down from 6.99/lb to 4.50/lb...
gotta keep your mind open, we thankfully found a diamond in the rough....
