Hey everyone. These are pictures from the brown slime I was talking about in the post I entered on 7/17/11. I was able to get the pics downloaded to show you guys.. I am so depressed! This stuff is now on my rocks and corals. It killed my mushroom and quickly spreading... I have turned off lights and minimized my feedings. I have also turned off lights as recommended at my previous thread and it just looks like this brown slime/gunk looking thing is taking over. I retested the water and all was good except my calcium and alkalinity was low.

Looks like some kind of cyanobacteria/dinoflagelites to me. You say "all was good" but we probably need a little more. What is your nitrate reading?

Here is a link to your previous thread.

Try doing a water change and siphon up as much as you can, I had it even worse than that once back in the day and I used chemi clean it worked wonders...

With no nitrates and no phosphates all I can say is try the blackout method suggested in the previous thread. Maybe add a solid clean up crew, if you don't have one already.

Someone else will probably have more/better info for you in the morning.

Hi :) what level of flow do you have? How many power heads & their output? I had a similar problem but it was more of a red colour. That turned out to be cyanobacteria.
I treated it with a product called mycosidol & increased my water flow. All's been good since.
    Good luck

+1 on the chemiclean, I had the same problem as yours, I used the chemiclean and it took care of it rightaway. I been cyno free for 8 months now. It happened because at one spot in my tank wasnt getting enough flow. It took out my hammer overnight and gotten some of my gonipora. You need to siphon it out and do 30-40% waterchange.

How many snails do you have? It dosn't look like you answered that in the other thread. Looks more like a really bad case of diatoms to me. A few turbos, or something should wipe it out quick. If not, could be dinos, but from the picks, just looks like really bad diatoms. If you don't have many snails, that would be my first guess.
